I initially received my Bachelor of Science in Interior Architecture and design. While designing healthcare and corporate environments, it become clear to me the health issues people were acquiring by sitting at a desk for 8 or more hours a day. My work as a Certified Ergonomic Technician (CET) in these environments allowed me to help people work healthier. This led to an increasing desire to help people lead healthier and happier lifestyles.
At the same time, I was struggling to get my life back on track. I had injured my hip and was refusing to take time away from my daily activities to care for it. I continued to run and play soccer while the pain got worse. I went through physical therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractor care for years to keep up my activity levels with manageable pain. Eventually I couldnt move, sit, sleep or function without severe pain. I finally listened to my body and quit running, soccer, biking, yoga and all the things that agitated my hip. Then came depression and finally surgery. Then more depression, emotional eating, weight gain, and another year of physical therapy. I had to recreate my life balance. This has led me to explore alternate ways to remain healthy and happy, including diet changes, new exercise techniques, and awareness of mental/emotional triggers. During my recovery I enrolled in a Holistic Health coaching program at Institute for Integrative Nutrition to coach myself back to health. Now I support others facing physical, mental or emotional challenges and pain to rehabilitate their health and life. Holistic preventative health practices can help you live up to your full potential, regardless of where you are in your life journey. I continue to rehabilitate my hip, emotional and mental health, but I have come a long way and signed up for soccer this summer! Each of us deserves to live an enjoyable, rewarding life!
